Steiff Polar Bear
POLAR
FAO Schwarz Exclusive 1995
13" [33 cm] # 00435 of Limited Edition of 1000
'Mint in Box'
Polar is actually whiter than shown here - a beautiful bear
In 1912, the family of Daisy Corning Spedding, including her young son Douglas - and his Steiff bear "Polar" - survived the Titanic's fateful voyage. In 1995, FAO commissioned a 13" reproduction of "Polar" from Steiff in a Collector Edition of 1,000.
Polar the Titanic Bear Book
The heroic saga, originally penned by Mrs. Spedding, was discovered by her great grandnephew Leighton H. Coleman III
in an attic.
Sadly, just 3 years after the sinking of the Titanic, nine year
old Douglas was killed in a car accident in Maine.  It was one
of the first car accidents in that state.
A truly delightful book with many interesting photos as well as a wonderful story for all age groups.
This is the box in which "Polar" resides.
It's one of the better boxes in which Steiff
presents their bears.

The ONLY criticism I have with Steiff is
their packaging.  I cannot fault their bears.
Nobody does it better.
See a miniature version of "Polar" on the
next page.
